  1. Release the parking brake pedal.

  1. Remove the driver's side front door sill trim and the kick panel.

  1. Remove the footrest.

  1. Pull back the carpet (A), then remove the equalizer cover (B).

  2. AB6 x 1.0 mm9.3 N·m (0.95 kgf·m, 6.9 lbf·ft)
  1. Disconnect and remove the return spring (A), then remove the wire guide base (B).

  2. AB8 x 1.25 mm22 N·m (2.2 kgf·m, 16 lbf·ft)CD
  3. Disconnect the rear parking brake cables (C) from the equalizer (D).


  1. Remove the parking brake shoes, and disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever.

  1. Remove the hub bearing unit mounting bolts (A).

  2. A 12 x 1.25 mm 98 N·m (10.0 kgf·m, 72 lbf·ft)B14 x 1.5 mm 78 N·m (8.0 kgf·m, 58 lbf·ft)CDE6 x 1.0 mm9.3 N·m (0.95 kgf·m, 6.9 lbf·ft)F
  3. Loosen the anchor nuts (B).

  4. Pull back the hub bearing unit (C) and backing plate (D)   until the parking brake cable clears the insertion part of the backing plate.

  5. Remove the parking brake cable mounting bolts (E) from the backing plate.

  6. Pull the parking brake cable (F) and remove it from the backing plate.


  1. Remove the parking brake cable grommets (A), and pull out the parking brake cable from the body floor.

  1. Remove the parking brake cable mounting hardware, then remove the cable.

  1. Install the parking brake cables in the reverse order of removal.

    NOTE: Be careful not to bend or distort the cable.

  1. Adjust the parking brake.

    NOTE: Do the Major Adjustment first, apply the parking brake firmly 10 times, then do the Minor Adjustment again.
