If the tailgate latch does not open by using the tailgate outer
handle, remove the maintenance lid (A) from the tailgate lower trim
panel, then turn the emergency lever (B) clockwise as shown.
Remove the tailgate lower trim panel.
Disconnect the tailgate release actuator/latch switch connector (A).
Remove the bolts, and pull out the tailgate latch (B), then remove it.
Install the latch in the reverse order of removal, and make sure the tailgate opens properly and locks securely.
With Power Tailgate
NOTE: Put on gloves to protect your hands.
If the tailgate latch does not open by using the keyless entry
transmitter or the tailgate outer handle, remove the maintenance lid (A)
from the tailgate lower trim panel, then turn the emergency lever (B)
clockwise as shown.
Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure.
Remove the tailgate lower trim panel.
Remove the tailgate latch assembly (A).
Disconnect the power tailgate latch connectors (B).
Remove the bolts (C, D), and pull out the tailgate latch assembly.
Install the latch assembly in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
Make sure each connector is plugged in properly.
Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure.
If necessary, reset the power tailgate control unit.
Make sure the tailgate opens properly and locks securely.
